ACCESSIBILITY GUIDE
Accessibility for all our passengers is important at Central Tramway. We recognise that the tramway offers a vital service to both locals and visitors to Scarborough navigating the steep incline from the seafront to town.
-
We offer free travel for registered carers travelling with their caree, please show your carer's identification for eligibility.
-
There is level access both on and off the carriages at the top and bottom stations, making both carriages fully wheelchair accessible.
-
Entrance and exit from the carriages at the bottom station is via a slightly sloped incline directly off the public footpath.
-
Entrance and exit from the carriages at the top station is through a gated entrance, where payment is taken.
-
Once inside the carriages there is space between the bench seating for both wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters.
-
Electric mobility scooters should be switched off and the brake applied during the journey.
-
Attendants at both the top and bottom stations are able to assist visitors with sight or hearing loss or impairment.
-
A hearing loop is fitted at the top station pay booth and can be used by our visitors with a hearing aid with a T facility.
-
A range of mobility scooters and powerchairs are available to hire from Scarborough Mobility a short distance from the top station. Visit their website to learn more: https://www.scarboroughmobility.co.uk/
